Privacy Policy
Effective September 27, 2026
This policy explains what information MusicWipe collects, why, and what happens to it. MusicWipe is published by Serious Business Software LLC (“we”, “us”). It applies to the MusicWipe apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac, whether you got them from the App Store or downloaded the Mac app from musicwipe.com, to the MusicWipe app for Android from Google Play, to the MusicWipe web app at app.musicwipe.com, and to this website, musicwipe.com.
The short version
- Your video never leaves your device, in the apps and in the web app alike. Only its audio track is uploaded, so it can be separated into dialogue, music and effects.
- Uploaded audio is deleted automatically: separated audio 24 hours after your job finishes, abandoned uploads within 2 hours, and anything left over after 2 days at most.
- Your audio is never used to train models, never sold, and never shared except with the service providers named below that process it for us.
- You don’t need an account with a name or email address. Signing in is optional in the apps and only syncs your minutes and purchases across devices. Buying on musicwipe.com requires signing in.
- We never see your card details. Purchases are handled by Apple, by Google Play in the Android app, or, on musicwipe.com, by Stripe and Link.
- There is no advertising in MusicWipe and no tracking across other apps or websites. The website and the web app use Abner, a cookieless analytics service, to count visits and which steps people use; the apps have no analytics.
Your account
You can use MusicWipe without signing in. The first time you open the app, it creates an account for your device that has no name or email address attached. It holds your plan, minutes, purchases and job history, and is reached with a random token stored in your device’s keychain (on Android, in the app’s private storage, encrypted with a key kept in the Android Keystore).
Signing in with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google is optional. It lets your minutes, purchases and history follow you across your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android devices, and what you did before signing in moves into the signed-in account. If you sign in, we store:
- your email address,
- your name, if you choose to share it, and
- the account identifier the provider gives us.
If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only ever see and use Apple’s private relay address, and we respect that choice.
In the Android app, Sign in with Google uses Android’s own account picker, and Sign in with Apple opens Apple’s sign-in page in a browser tab.
You can also sign in on musicwipe.com or in the web app with Apple or Google. That is the same account as in the apps, and it’s required to buy a plan or top-up on the website or in the web app.
We use this information to run your account, keep track of your plan and minutes, and reply if you contact us. If you buy on musicwipe.com, we also use your email address to tell you about changes to your subscription, such as a price change, as the Terms of Use describe.
Free minutes and DeviceCheck
In the apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac, the one-time free minutes are given once per device. To check that, the app uses Apple’s DeviceCheck: Apple keeps two yes-or-no values for your device on our behalf, and we ask whether this device has already received the free minutes. DeviceCheck does not give us an identifier for your device or any information about you.
Browsers have no DeviceCheck, so in the web app the free minutes come with signing in with Apple or Google, once per account. Free previews in the web app need no sign-in.
Android has no DeviceCheck either, so in the Android app the free minutes also come with signing in with Apple or Google, once per account. The Android app does not use a device identifier, the advertising ID or Google Play Integrity for this. Free previews in the Android app need no sign-in.
Account and usage data
To provide the service we keep a record of your account, the minutes you have used, and a record of your processing jobs. To limit abuse of the free tier, when an account is created without signing in we also keep a one-way hash of the network address it came from, for 24 hours. This data is stored with Cloudflare, in a Cloudflare D1 database.
Your audio
When you preview or clean a video, MusicWipe extracts the audio track on your device and uploads only that audio. The video itself stays on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android device, or, in the web app, on the computer or phone your browser runs on.
- Where it goes. Audio is uploaded to Cloudflare R2 storage and processed on GPU servers operated by Modal Labs in the United States.
- How long it is kept. Separated audio is deleted automatically 24 hours after your job finishes. Uploads that are abandoned before processing are deleted within 2 hours. As a backstop, stored audio is removed after 2 days at most.
- Copyright check (Pro). If you have a Pro plan and the automatic copyright check is on, or you choose “Check for songs”, the audio of that video, and then only the stretches of the cleaned audio where a song was found, are sent to AudD to identify known songs. AudD returns the names of the songs it recognizes and where in the audio it heard them, and we keep that result with the job in your job history to show it to you. The audio is sent to AudD only for this check.
- What it is used for. Only to produce the separated audio you asked for and, if you use the copyright check, to identify songs in it. Your audio is never used to train models, never sold, and never shared with anyone other than the processors named here.
The web app (app.musicwipe.com)
The web app runs in your browser and works like the apps:
- Your video is processed locally. Reading the video, extracting its audio track, playing the result and writing the exported video all happen in your browser, on your device. The video is never uploaded.
- Only the audio track is uploaded, to the same storage and processing as the apps (see “Your audio”), and it is deleted automatically 24 hours after your job finishes.
- Your sign-in token is kept in your browser’s local storage. The web app creates an account without a name or email the first time you use it, like the apps, and keeps the random token that reaches it in the browser’s local storage (localStorage) for app.musicwipe.com. Signing out or deleting your account removes it. While you sign in with Apple or Google, api.musicwipe.com sets short-lived cookies for that step only, and removes the sign-in cookie as soon as you are back.
- What else stays in your browser. Your recent videos (their names, sizes, a thumbnail, and, for videos you cleaned in full, the separated audio, so a video you come back to isn’t billed again), and a few settings such as the ambience level and export options. They are stored only in your browser for app.musicwipe.com, never sent to us, and you can remove them by deleting your account in the web app or clearing the site’s data in your browser. While you sign in or check out, the web app briefly keeps in the browser’s session storage what you were doing (the video to clean or the plan you chose), so it can carry on when you come back.
- Analytics, without tracking. The web app uses Abner, a cookieless analytics service, to count page visits and which steps people use (for example, a preview started, a video cleaned, a checkout opened, and which plan was chosen). It sends no file names, email addresses, account identifiers or sign-in tokens, and removes sign-in and checkout details from the page address before anything is sent. The web app has no advertising, sets no cookies of its own, and loads no other third-party scripts.
The Android app
The MusicWipe app for Android works like the apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac, with a few Android specifics:
- Choosing videos. You pick a video with Android’s photo picker or from your files, so the app only gets the video you chose. It does not ask for access to your photo library.
- Saving videos. The app saves the cleaned video to your device’s gallery or to a folder you choose. Only on Android 8 and 9 does it ask for permission to write to storage, and only to save.
- Progress notification. While a job runs, the app shows a notification with its progress, so the upload and processing can finish if you switch to another app. Allowing notifications is optional.
- Rating the app. The app may ask you to rate it using Google Play’s in-app review. Your rating and review go to Google Play, under Google’s terms.
- Nothing else. The Android app has no ads and no analytics, does not use the advertising ID, and does not include crash reporting.
Purchases
In the App Store versions
Subscriptions and top-ups bought inside an App Store copy of MusicWipe are sold and billed by Apple, whether or not you sign in. With each purchase the app gives Apple a random identifier for your MusicWipe account, so the purchase is credited to the right account. We receive transaction identifiers and your subscription status so we can give you the right plan and minutes. We never receive or store your payment details.
In the Android app
Subscriptions and top-ups bought in the Android app are sold and billed by Google through Google Play, whether or not you sign in, and Google Play’s terms and Google’s privacy policy apply to the payment. With each purchase the app gives Google Play your MusicWipe account identifier, so the purchase is credited to the right account. Google Play gives us the purchase token and order details (which product you bought, the order identifier, when it renews or ends, and whether it was canceled, refunded or revoked). We check them with Google Play’s developer services, and Google Play notifies us when a subscription or purchase changes, so we can give you the right plan and minutes. We never receive or store your payment details.
On musicwipe.com, in the web app and in the Mac app downloaded from musicwipe.com
These purchases are processed by Stripe and sold through Link, Stripe’s payment service, which acts as the merchant of record. You enter your name, email address, payment details and billing address directly with Stripe and Link; we never see or store your card details. Stripe tells us your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, which plan you bought, when it renews or ends, whether a payment succeeded, failed, was refunded or disputed, and a copy of your email address. We keep that with your account so we can give you the right plan and minutes and answer billing questions.
Stripe and Link handle this data under their own privacy policies: Stripe and Link. As the seller of record, they keep transaction records for as long as tax and financial laws require, including after you delete your MusicWipe account.
Deleting your account
You can delete your MusicWipe account and its data at any time, whether or not you signed in:
- In the app (iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android): open Settings and choose Delete account. This works for every account, including one you never signed in to.
- In the web app: open Account and delete your account.
- On the web: sign in on musicwipe.com with the same Apple or Google account you use in the app, open your account page, and choose Delete my account.
- By email: if you can’t open the app anymore, for example because you uninstalled it, email [email protected] and we will delete the account for you. If you signed in, write from that account’s email address or tell us what it is. If you never signed in, tell us what you can to identify the account, such as the order number of a purchase.
Deleting your account immediately deletes your account, your sign-in details (email address, name and the provider’s account identifier), your plan, minutes and purchase records, your job history and any of your audio that is still stored, and, if you used Sign in with Apple, revokes MusicWipe’s Sign in with Apple token. It can’t be undone. If you open the app again afterwards, it starts a new account without a name or email address.
If you have a subscription bought on musicwipe.com, in the web app or in the Mac app downloaded from musicwipe.com, deleting your account cancels it immediately and we delete the link between your account and Stripe. Stripe and Link keep their own records of past payments, as described above. A subscription billed by Apple or by Google Play is not canceled by deleting your account: cancel it in your Apple Account’s subscription settings, or in the Google Play app under Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Apple and Google keep their own records of purchases made through them.
Updates to the Mac app downloaded from musicwipe.com
The Mac app downloaded from musicwipe.com checks musicwipe.com for new versions, using the open-source Sparkle updater. Each check sends the app’s version and your macOS version, and, like any web request, your IP address. It isn’t linked to your account, and we don’t turn on Sparkle’s optional system profiling.
iPhone and iPad waitlist
If you join the waitlist for MusicWipe for iPhone and iPad, we store your email address, the language of the page you signed up on, where you signed up (for example, the home page), when you signed up and confirmed, and a one-way hash of your network address to limit abuse. We use it only to send you a confirmation email and one email when the app is available.
We delete your address after sending that email, or right away if you unsubscribe using the link in any of these emails. The emails are sent through our email service, which uses Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES). The signup form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a script, is signing up.
This website
This website and the web app use Abner for page analytics. Abner is a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics service. This website does not set advertising cookies and does not track you across other websites.
What the website stores in your browser:
- your light or dark theme choice;
- if you sign in, a session cookie for api.musicwipe.com that keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary and is removed when you sign out;
- while you are at checkout, which plan or top-up you are buying, in your browser’s session storage, so the page you return to can confirm it. It is removed when you close the tab.
The waitlist form loads Cloudflare Turnstile, which processes technical information such as your IP address and browser details to tell people from automated signups.
Feedback
If you send feedback from inside a MusicWipe app, your message, the email address you type (optional), and the app and system versions are sent to us through HeardKit, the service we use to receive feedback, so we can help. Nothing is sent unless you send feedback.
Service providers
We share data only with the providers that run MusicWipe for us, and only for that purpose:
- Cloudflare: account and usage data (D1), uploaded audio storage (R2), and hosting for this website and the web app.
- Modal Labs: GPU processing of your audio, in the United States.
- AudD: identifying known songs in your audio for the copyright check, if you have Pro and use it.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, if you choose it, DeviceCheck, and billing for purchases made in the App Store versions.
- Google: Sign in with Google, if you choose it, in the apps, the web app and on this website, and, in the Android app, billing for purchases through Google Play and Google Play’s in-app review.
- Stripe and Link: payment, tax and receipts for purchases on musicwipe.com, in the web app and in the Mac app downloaded from musicwipe.com.
- HeardKit: receiving feedback you send from the apps.
- Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES): sending waitlist emails.
- Cloudflare Turnstile: spam protection on the waitlist form.
- Abner: cookieless analytics for this website and the web app.
No advertising, no tracking
MusicWipe shows no ads, and we do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. The Android app does not use the advertising ID.
Children
MusicWipe is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
